This was our second cycling lesson this year and our first practical lesson outside. It was a cold, foggy morning but everyone really enjoyed the great lesson on safety checks for our bikes, wearing our helmets correctly and learning how to turn, stop and signal correctly.
Today we made our way to Dublin on the train from Castlerea. We had a wonderful guided tour of Kilmainham Gaol revising all the history we learned in class and picking up some more very interesting historical facts about the Gaol, the 1916 rising, the 1798 rebellion and the many Irish men and women who served time in the Gaol. We then took a walk to the Four Courts and the saw the famous river Liffey. We also saw a memorial in Croppies Acre memorial park to the people who died in the 1798 rebellion along the road called Wolfetone Quay! On Tuesday 3rd May our boys and girls teams for GAA football competed in the qualifying blitz for 3 and 4 teacher schools. Both teams won all their games. They also wore the new school jerseys for the first time. These jerseys were organised and funds raised for them by the carrick ns parents association.
Both our girls and boys teams were victorious in all their games in the basketball blitz this April. They have trained throughout the year with the help Mr Dunleavy. Both teams will now go forward to the next round of games. We wish them both the best of luck. Well done 5th 6th class girls and boys.
Today, Wednesday 30th March 2022, Carrick ND Ballinlough hosted our first ever 5-a-side soccer tournament. Carrick NS, Granlahan NS, Gortaganny NS and Loughlynn NS all took part. Carrick NS A Girls won’t the final against a very good Loughlynn NS team. Carrick NS A Boys won the final for the boys competition against Gortaganny NS. All children who participated received a drink and crisps from our school. The winners and runners up all received a medal. Thanks to Paul from Daybreak in Ballinlough for sponsoring some water drinks for the children too. |
