5th6th class had a great day of teamwork challenges, football/hurling/camogie skills and games in Connacht Centre of Excellence Dome on Tuesday 17th October 2023. Many schools from all over north Roscommon were present. Thanks to the Roscommon Gaa for organising a great day.
Our 5th 6th class boys and girls teams both won the county rounders Cumann na mBunscol Ros Comáin competition. The competition was held in Glavey’s GAA grounds. This a high achievement for the school winning both boys and girl’s competitions. Well done to all our pupils involved. Today we celebrated Ireland’s 50th year as a member of the EU. 3rd-6th class learned the EU anthem “Ode to Joy” and after our eldest pupil, Diarmaid, raised our new EU flag, we played the anthem on our instruments. Well done to all the pupils involved. The boys and girls from 5th6th class did the school very proud in April playing exceptionally at the Hub In Castlerea. The girls won their division on the day and qualified for the next round. They now play two games on Thursday 4th May to qualify for the county semi finals. We wish them the best of luck.
The boys from 5th and 6th class won out the regional blitz on the first day. They qualified for the county final blitz on Friday 28th April. The boys drew top of their group having to play a 5min play off with another school to reach the county final game. Unfortunately we came up short losing the game 1-0. The Boys did very well and were very proud of them.
The pupils from 4th-6th class represented Carrick NS today at the regional 3/4 teacher schools competition. It was a very special occasskon playing in the dome in Bekan, the Connacht centre of excellence. The boys won all three games and the girls qualified in the end on a penalty shoot out. Both teams now qualify for the quarter final of the Cumann na mBunscol competition.
This week we held an assembly to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge and St Patrick’s Day. All the pupils told the school any facts they learned this week about St Patrick and showed off all the new Irish phrases they have learned the last 3 weeks especially. We encourage pupils to use Irish throughout the school day. Also we have learned the siege of Ennis and the walls of Limerick dances to celebrate all Irish culture. |
